Where to drink

A £2.50 pint in Wrexham, and it is in a café

The Leader reckons a Wrexham café is pouring the cheapest pint in the city at £2.50, which is worth knowing if you are working out an evening's budget.

A café in Wrexham is selling pints for £2.50, which The Leader reports could make it the cheapest in the city.

Why a café price matters more than it sounds

Wrexham has plenty of places to drink inside a square mile, and we have walked and written up eleven of them in Eleven pubs, one square mile. What the town has had less of is somewhere pouring at a price that undercuts the pubs by a visible margin. A café doing it is a slightly different proposition: daytime hours, table service in the usual café sense, and a room built for coffee rather than for a crowd watching the late kick-off.

That suits some evenings and not others. If you are three pints into a Saturday and want somewhere loud, this is not it. If you are killing an hour before dinner, or you are on the second day of a weekend and the first day was expensive, £2.50 changes the shape of the afternoon.

If you are budgeting a night

The honest arithmetic on a Wrexham trip is that the bed costs what it costs and the evening is where the number moves. Two people, four rounds, and the difference between £2.50 and town-centre pub prices is real money.

Self-catering does the same job from the other direction. The City Centre Apartment is twelve minutes' walk from the Racecourse with your own kitchen, and it is the best value of anything on this site if there are three or four of you and somebody will do a supermarket run. Boutique33 is eight minutes out with a proper kitchen and self check-in, so a late arrival does not cost you anything. Both are on the self-catering list.

If you would rather the drink be downstairs than in a fridge, the Wynnstay Arms puts you ninety seconds from a pint, and the rooms sit above the bar. That is the recommendation and the warning in one sentence.

Timing, on a match day

Café hours and a 19:45 kick-off are not natural allies. The first evening game of the season at the Racecourse is West Bromwich Albion on 13 October 2026, and anything in a café is likely to be a late-afternoon stop rather than a pre-match one. Our guide to a pint before kick off covers how much time those fixtures actually leave you.

We will add the place to the pub walk once we have been in and paid for one ourselves.
